GOOD NEWS: 7-Year-Old Syrian Girl Is Safe And Tweeting Again

Bana Alabed is back online

Seven-year-old Syrian girl, Bana Alabed, raised alarm after her Twitter account disappeared on Sunday night and, despite it appearing again, she and her mother remained silent. Those concerned over the war in Syria, and the thousands of innocent civilian casualties — mainly children like Bana — have been able to catch a breath after a new Tweet appeared on Bana’s account. While it isn’t the most encouraging, this tweet tells us that Bana and her family are still safe amidst the bombing from Syrian and Russian armies over the city of Aleppo.

A BBC source has said that both Bana and her mother Fatemah are safe in an undisclosed location. NBC News said a spokesperson for the humanitarian organization, Syria Charity, declared the Alabed familyhas, fortunately, not been taken captive by the Syrian army. According to AFP, Bana’s father told the news agency by phone from east Aleppo (two-thirds of the city have been seized by advancing government forces).

“Our house was damaged in bombardment. The army got really close to our neighbourhood. We fled to another part of east Aleppo and the family is doing well… the internet connection is very weak here.”

Since September, Bana Alabed and her mother Fatemah attracted international attention by tweeting live videos and updates on the awful situation lived in Aleppo, the constant bombing and the nightmare civilians are going through. In the beginning of December, Bana tweeted she was sick and with no access to medicine; together with today’s Tweet, Bana also wrote her health is getting better, although the bombing is not stopping. And just yesterday, another Security Council ceasefire agreement collapsed after Russia and China again used their veto. Bana and her family, together with many other Syrian children and families are still safe and alive; unfortunately, this could quickly change.
