London Mayor Rips Trump for Trying To Divide UK Communities in Wake of Terror Attacks
In the wake of the tragedy that occurred on the London Bridge in the U.K. on Saturday, President Trump has kept up a steady stream of criticism regarding London Mayor Sadiq Khan, who is understandably fed up. Trump, Khan says, is trying to divide communities within the U.K. by turning to Twitter to air his criticisms, The Hill reports.
London doesn’t need Trump — And doesn’t want him either
“We aren’t going to allow anybody, whether it’s Donald Trump or anybody else to divide our community,” Khan told the BBC.

Earlier Monday, Trump criticized Khan’s response to the attack which killed at least seven people and wounded nearly 50.
“Pathetic excuse by London Mayor Sadiq Khan who had to think fast on his ‘no reason to be alarmed statement,” he tweeted. “MSM is working hard to sell it!”

A spokesperson for Khan says the mayor has been doing whatever he can to coordinate the response to the “horrific and cowardly terrorist attack” in London to address Trump’s tweets.
“He has more important things to do than respond to Donald Trump’s ill-informed tweet that deliberately takes out of context his remarks urging Londoners not to be alarmed when they saw more police — including armed officers —on the streets,” the spokesperson said.
Trump initially attacked Khan in a tweet on Sunday, engaging in his usual lead-footed, snarky comments, saying “at least 7 dead and 48 wounded and Mayor of London says there is ‘no reason to be alarmed!'”
“I don’t think we should roll out the red carpet to the president of the USA in the circumstances where his policies go against everything we stand for,” he said
“When you have a special relationship, it is no different from when you have got a close mate. You stand with them in times of adversity, but you call them out when they are wrong.”
And now, notoriously right-wing Prime Minister Theresa May is being called upon to scupper an upcoming visit by Trump to the U.K.
Liberal Democrat Leader Tim Farron condemned May’s “supine relationship” with the president, noting:
“Trump is an embarrassment to America.”
“In the wake of three recent terrorist attacks, two of which killed people on the streets of London, Donald Trump decides to use his time in the oval office to attack the Mayor of London over Twitter.”
“Sadiq Khan has shown dignity and leadership. Theresa May absolutely must withdraw the state visit,” he said. “This is a man insulting our national values at a time of introspection and mourning.”
Trump has been considering visiting the U.K. to supposedly show “solidarity.” I’m willing to bet he’ll spend more time fear-mongering than doing anything positive. And this is why people don’t want him to visit.
He acts like he knows how to do anything better than anybody when in reality he is in a job he was never suited for to begin with. And we’re all suffering for it.
