GOP Strategist Slams Racist Trump Base: Wants ‘Anybody Who’s Darker Than a Latte Deported’

Not all conservatives are Trump surrogates

Rick Wilson is a former Republican strategist who worked as a political consultant for Rudy Giuliani’s mayoral campaign. Despite his GOP past, he has become known in the past few years for being an ardent critic of Donald Trump, his administration, and his supporters, often using harsh pejoratives and insults to convey his point.

It is no surprise then, that on the topic of immigration and children being separated from their parents, Wilson would have a lot to say. Speaking on the CNN Newsroom, Wilson was asked what impact these policies would have on the Trump Administration’s permanent image. Wilson responded that “no one inside the administration was unhappy” about the inhumane treatment of immigrants and refugees, because they are pandering to a base that wants “anybody who’s darker than a latte deported.”

When host Poppy Harlow pushed back against his assertion that the Trump team wouldn’t be haunted, politically, by the visuals of the family separations and reunifications, Wilson stood his ground, saying that Trump advisers like Stephen Miller were from the “white nationalist faction of the party” and were therefore happy about the optics of this “cruel exercise.”

Democratic strategist and fellow panelist Joe Trippi agreed with Wilson, adding that pressure against the Trump Administration from the American people was not working as effectively as it could.
