Trump May Have Ordered Kushner to Setup Secret Kremlin Back-channel, says former CIA Analyst

Kushner may have been following Trump’s orders in link with Russia

Jared Kushner may have been following Donald Trump’s orders when attempting to build a secret link with Moscow. According to the Independent, a former CIA official has claimed it may have been U.S. President Donald Trump who ordered his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, to set up a secret communication link with Russia.

Philip Mudd, a former security analyst at the CIA, spoke to CNN about Mr. Trump proposing to his son-in-law the idea of setting up a communications channel and approving it, while also mentioning it’s very unlikely a presidential adviser would have acted alone on this issue. As he told CNN:

“There’s a judgment by Jared Kushner and the President’s team that says, ‘I trust the Russians more than I trust the Americans. I’m going to go talk to the Russian embassy because I don’t trust American channels. I’m going to presume he did this at the behest of the President-elect of the United States.”

As quoted by Huffington Post, CNN political analyst Chris Cillizza also believes Kushner did not act alone, but was instead following Trump’s orders:

“I find it hard to believe … that he was lone wolfing it on this — that he developed a plan entirely independent of Donald Trump or Mike Flynn or anybody else. Yes, he is a member of the family, he is a trusted adviser. But he’s not someone who believes he should just go and run channels, particularly at that point, particularly in the transition period.”

CBS news has actually confirmed that Kushner did discuss setting up the communications channel with President Trump during a December meeting. And although Trump has expressed “total confidence” in his son-in-law and has dismissed the accusations against Kushner as “fake news“, this just adds to Kushner’s already feeble situation. However, the real issue remains: if it was the President who suggested, or at least approved, the establishment of a communications channel with Moscow; that would give a huge twist to the investigation of Russia’s attempts to interfere in last year’s election.
