This EPIC ‘Nazi’ Trump Billboard is up to Stay Until Trump Goes Away, says Artist
Owner of Anti-Trump billboard refuses to remove it
A controversial billboard on Phoenix’s Grand Avenue has been lifted, and its owner has claimed she will not remove it as long as Donald Trump is President. The billboard went up Friday at 11th and Grand Avenue in Phoenix, Arizona, coinciding with the annual three-day Art Detour event, and reflects how strong the Trump-Hitler narrative has been. Depicting a menacing Donald Trump between two mushroom clouds and dollar signs that resemble swastikas, Karen Fiorito, artist and the billboard creator, said in an interview by 12 News
“I think a lot of people are feeling this way and I’m just trying to express what I think is on a lot of people’s minds these days. Something that really concerned us was this idea of a dictatorship where things were going in a certain direction.”
Beatrice Moore, a longtime patron of the arts on Grand Avenue and owner of the billboard, commissioned the design to Fiorito with the goal of expressing through it all those important and disturbing issues that have been characteristic of Trump’s campaign and presidency, but that are not easy to speak out. Fiorito then told Reuters that the image speaks about power, money, and dictatorship. Although the billboard has a bit of humor and hidden messages in it; if we look close at the mushroom clouds it is possible to see clown faces (certainly Donald Trump is a clown), and a Russian flag is also depicted on the President’s lapel. The back of the image has allegedly five fists forming with sign language the word “unity“.
Fiorito and Moore have worked together before, and this is not their only controversial art. Back in 2004 a billboard of President George W. Bush and top government officials read
“Dear America, we lied to you for your own good. Now trust us.”
However, they are both aware of the dangers they face for expressing themselves. Fiorito has claimed to have received dead threats and hate messages, and hopes in spite of this, that everyone involved in the creation of this piece will get through unharmed.

Whether or not agreeing with the image, and the debate on freedom of expression it raises, this billboard absolutely nailed it: this image is making a statement. It not only stands against Trump’s absurd, horrifying and shocking administration, but it depicts in a simple image with no words, how scary and disturbing it is.
