Twitter Slaps Back at Trump for Tactless, Insulting, Fear Mongering in Wake of London Terror
Donald Trump Attacks London Mayor
Donald Trump sunk to a new low Monday morning, openly insulting London mayor Sadiq Khan, just days after the city suffered a terror attack.
He first attacked Khan shortly after the terror attack happened, tweeting out the following incredibly misleading statement:
At least 7 dead and 48 wounded in terror attack and Mayor of London says there is "no reason to be alarmed!"
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 4, 2017
What Khan actually said was that there was “no reason to be alarmed” by the increased presence of armed police in London in the wake of the attack that killed 7 and injured 48. Khan’s full statement reads as such:
“There aren’t words to describe the grief and anger that our city will be facing today. I’m appalled and furious that these cowardly terrorists would deliberately target innocent Londoners.
“There can be no justification for the acts of these terrorists and I am quite clear that we will never let them win.
“My message to Londoners and visitors to our great city is to be calm and vigilant today. You will see an increased police presence today, including armed officers and uniformed officers. There is no reason to be alarmed by this. We are the safest global city in the world. You saw last night as a consequence of our planning, our preparation, the rehearsals that take place, the swift response from the emergency services tackling the terrorists and also helping the injured.”
But Trump heard what he wanted to hear, and put the incorrect statement out on Twitter.
Trump Doubles Down On Incorrect Statement
Donald Trump cherry-picked a statement that he chose to be outraged over, in hopes of whipping up fear and anger from his own base – particularly since Khan himself is a Muslim.
Trump’s incorrect statement quickly received the push-back it deserved, both in the news and via Twitter.
It's called 'leadership', Donald. The terrorists were dead 8 minutes after police got the call. If we need an alarmist blowhard, we'll call. https://t.co/NUiy9j4fBt

How close are we to President Trump getting into a Twitter feud with a family of one of the London terror victims?

And today, Trump decided to double down on what is a veritably, demonstrably untrue position. And, with the same tweet, he escalated the tensions between himself and the mayor of London, openly insulting him. And then, to make the Tweet extra-Trumpy, he blamed the mainstream media for his woes.
Pathetic excuse by London Mayor Sadiq Khan who had to think fast on his "no reason to be alarmed" statement. MSM is working hard to sell it!

There will always be a new depth to which Donald Trump sinks. It will never be a matter of if, with him, but when. And today, he simply proved it.
