Outrageous GOP Slander Campaign Seeks to Tar & Feather Comey to Protect Trump – Here’s the Truth
The GOP is willing to destroy anyone to protect Trump
In November 2017, former FBI Director James Comey announced that he would writing an autobiography, “A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies, and Leadership,” that would include insider information on his interactions with President Donald Trump. With a publication date of May 1, 2018, the Republican Party had several months to prepare for the impending PR nightmare that the book’s contents would no doubt create.
The country is still about a month away from seeing it, but that has not stopped Republicans from revealing their plans to slander Mr. Comey. As The Washington Post’s John Wagner reports, their stratagem is far worse than mere smear campaign: it involves Orwellian-levels of observation, calculation, and action.
To begin with, they created a website, appropriately titled “Lyin’ Comey,” that has four parts to it accessible via a button panel on the left. The first part of the page is “What They Said,” showing a rotating panel of four quotes from Democratic leaders Chuck Schumer, Maxine Waters, Nancy Pelosi, and Hillary Clinton all criticizing the director’s actions during the 2016 presidential election. The second part links to a video on the GOP’s official YouTube page that again rotates through top Democratic Party figures critiquing Comey’s decisions during the 2016 elections.
The third part is an embedded Tweet issued by Trump on March 18, 2018 in which he claimed that the director lied under oath, with the fourth part being a simple message that says “Comey stated under oath that he never posed as an anonymous source to leak information to the press.”
Unfortunately, the website is only the beginning. The Republican National Committee (RNC) also plans to set-up their own version of a “war room” that will not only monitor every single one of Comey’s media appearances, but also prepare an immediate partisan response to retort anything he says.
Finally, expect to see an influx in Republican propaganda through online advertisements as the GOP will be pushing them out. In the words of RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel: “If Comey wants the spotlight back on him, we’ll make sure the American people understand why he has no one but himself to blame for his complete lack of credibility.”
James Comey’s actions during the 2016 election were indeed questionable, and it is true that a good number of Democrats were too keen on blaming him for Clinton’s loss over other factors. But the outright hostility he has received from Trump and the GOP is borderline psychotic. His firing in May 2017 was rightfully criticized by members of both parties, making his book all the more interesting.
