Trump to Personally Profit From New China Deal

Trump Bails Out Chinese-Owned Cellphone Company in his Most Outrageous Pay to Play Scheme Yet

Are you tired of all this winning yet? It struck many Americans as odd when President Donald Trump announced that he was instructing the Department of Commerce to figure out a way to rescue the Chinese government-owned ZTE telecommunications company. After all, a central tenet of Trump’s snake-oil campaign for the presidency was “getting tough” on China when it comes to trade. And certainly, there are plenty of American businesses that have experienced extreme failure since the Republican took office.  But now it makes sense, in the way it seems to always make sense for Donald Trump: pay to play.

A  report in The Huffington Post draws the direct line between $1 Million in new investments to Trump properties, and this Sunday morning tweet:

According to HuffPo‘s S.V. Date:

Trump did not mention in that tweet or its follow-ups that on Thursday, the developer of a theme park resort outside of Jakarta had signed a deal to receive as much as $500 million in Chinese government loans, as well as another $500 million from Chinese banks. Trump’s family business, the Trump Organization, has a deal to license the Trump name to the resort, which includes a golf course and hotels.

Trump, despite his promises to do so during the campaign, has not divested himself of his businesses, and continues to profit from them.

Date also points out that “The White House did not respond to HuffPost queries asking if there was a connection between the “MNC Lido City” project and Trump’s directive regarding ZTE.”

This is a man who ranted and raved about how “crooked” his presidential opponent was. And he didn’t stop when he won the electoral vote. He also promised to release his tax returns and divest from his business, but that was a scam as well, playing the 62,979,636 Americans willing to believe him for suckers. And many of those people voted for him because they truly believed China was responsible for the loss of American manufacturing jobs.

Now they (like the students at Trump University and the many contractors signed to work on his properties prior to them) will find out the hard way what happens when you take Donald J. Trump at his word.
